Training is a very effective way to build people within and outside your organization. It is one skill that you need to learn as a professional so you can deliver value in your organization.
Knowledge and skills are transferred to employees in organizations through effective trainings. In this write-up, I would show you how you can effectively deliver training sessions for maximum impact.
I have written on 8 very important points you need to know to be an effective trainer, I am sure they would be very helpful to you.
Know the content
In-depth knowledge of the training content is key for delivering effective training sessions. Professionals must ensure that they have proper knowledge of the subject before they decide to deliver. You need to do as much research as you can, get current information about content and be ready for questions.
Know your audience
Do some research about the kind of people you will be training, you need to know their age range, and the quality of experience they have in that field. You may also need to anticipate their expectations. Having a good knowledge of your audience before the training helps you to adequately prepare.
It is better to be over prepared than to appear unready in front of your audience. If you will use slides, go through them over and over, check the venue if you can before the training day or arrive 30 minutes to 1 hour before time. Make sure the room is properly setup, check lighting and ventilation. Make sure everything you need is set before the arrival of you audience. You can never go wrong when you are fully prepared.
Use appropriate visual aids
Visual aids are very helpful tools for training sessions. Use videos, pictures and diagrams to explain your points. Visual aids sometimes help to simplify concepts and make it easy for you audience to remember concepts. Use appropriate visual aids as often as you can during training sessions.
Have a sense of Humour
You do not need to be a comedian, you just need to be able to make people laugh while delivering sessions. There may be times when your audience feel overloaded with information, infusing one or two funny statements at such times would help relieve your audience. Humour is an art that can be learnt.
Use your time well
You have to train yourself to keep to time whenever you are delivery trainings. You have to factor questions, break sessions and every possible distraction into your plan. People like it when trainers keep to time. Do not get carried away or over-excited and forget your time. You can rehearse several times before the training starts.
Maintain eye contact
Keep your eyes focused on the audience, ensure that your eyes are rooming through the room and that you are looking in every direction. Avoid the temptation to fix your gaze on only those who are paying attention. For a small class try to look at every individual and for a large class, divide it into sections. This way you will be able to tell if your audience is paying attention or not.
Engage the audience
To keep the audience focused during the training, you need to engage them. One very good way of doing this is by asking questions at regular intervals and picking on people randomly. This keeps everyone alert as they are unsure who you will call upon to answer the next question. Make your trainings as interactive as possible.
Training does not need to be complicated as you have seen from this write-up. With these simple steps you will become the kind of trainer people will not forget in a hurry.
